Urinary tract infections in special populations: Diabetes, renal transplant, HIV infection, and spinal cord injury - Abstract

Some populations have unique considerations relevant to complicated urinary tract infection.

For patients with diabetes, renal transplant, HIV infection, and spinal cord injuries, approaches to management, including diagnosis and treatment, are generally similar to other patients with complicated urinary tract infection. In addition, there is no evidence that treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria leads to improved outcomes.
