ASCO GU 2017: Welcome Address to the Genitourinary Cancer Symposium 2017 - Session Highlights

Orlando, Florida USA (UroToday.com) Dr. Dahut from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) delivers the welcome address for the genitourinary cancer symposium 2017. The theme and focus of the meeting is the translation of basic and clinical research into clinical practice. Since its conception attendance to the meeting continues to grow and we are expecting over 3300 participants this year.

The meeting continues to increase its breath in the realm of genitourinary oncology with and increasing number of abstracts being presented in the areas of urothelial, penile and testis cancers. The meeting international attendance continues to increase with approximately 25% of presented posters being from international institutions.

Dr. Dahut introduces the audience response system which is included in the meeting app. The app allows the audience to ask specific questions to panelist and engage in academic discussion with other fellow participants. There are also going to be some polling questions which will try to further engage the audience to the meeting. The app is a must visit for all participants.

All trainees and early-career faculty are welcome to participate in networking luncheon which will take place at lunch time in the Conway room. The luncheon has been set up to allow trainees interact with faculty of several specialties, and research focuses in an informal setting that will allow for networking and mentorship for career planning.

Dr. Dahut ends the introduction by inviting all attendees to have an engaging and fruitful meeting, and welcomes all attendees to participate in the poster sessions as this are the backbone of all the research presented in the symposium.
