SUFU 2018: Risk Factors for Stress Urinary Incontinence Surgery Following Sling Revision
After 23 months, 49% of the cohort had a repeat procedure for SUI following sling revision. On multivariate logistic regression analysis, the factors associated with increased likelihood for repeat surgical intervention were total MUS excision, SUI demonstrated on preop UDS, and increasing time to MUS excision. If patients did not have SUI on preoperative UDS, obesity and postmenopausal status were predictive of subsequent surgical intervention for SUI.
This study highlighted risk factors for patients who were more likely to undergo subsequent procedures for SUI following MUS excision. The authors highlight that the risk for SUI is significantly higher if the patient is incontinent prior to sling incision. This is important in counseling patients prior to procedure.
