AUA 2011 - SBUR/SUO: A practical approach to managing patients with kidney tumors - Session Highlights

WASHINGTON, DC USA (UroToday.com) - Dr. Robert Uzzo presented 4 thoughts for improving care of patients with kidney cancer.

Medical risk assessment is no more complicated than other decisions we make in our lives.

First, one must objectify, then standardize and make tradeoffs. Next one must align priorities of care. Third, one must better understand the medical risk continuum. There is a continuum of risk assessment, education, abatement and management. The risk of cancer can be predicted by nomograms. The risk of a high-grade cancer can also be estimated by nomogram. The risk of death may be estimated as well. How difficult a tumor is to treat with partial nephrectomy can be estimated by their nephrometry nomogram.

Risk calculators can be accessed at www. Cancernomograms.com, he pointed out.
