Slide Presentation: Pharmacological treatment of overactive bladder – What can we hope to achieve? by Karl-Erik Andersson, MD, PhD

BERKELEY, CA (UroToday.com) - The presentation begins with a review of the International Continence Society definitions for a symptom-based diagnosis for overactive bladder and the urodynamically based definition for both idiopathic and neurogenic detrusor overactivity.

Dr. Andersson then explains that both overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome and detrusor overactivity (DO) are multifactorial disorders, while moving forward with a review of what is known about the pathways contributing to each disorder, the pathways for the pathophysiology of the disorders, and finally with a detailed review of the evidence for pharmacologic treatments and what may be possible for treatments in the future.
