AUGS 2012 - Gestational diabetes and urinary incontinence later in life - Session Highlights

CHICAGO, IL USA (UroToday) - Diabetes mellitus is well documented as a risk factor for urinary incontinence. The study sought to better understand the relationship of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and UI.

Of the 2,420 women (ages 40-80), 127 reported a history of GDM; 73 were later diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. While these women with a history of GDM had a higher rate of weekly UI, the researcher reported a need to further study a larger cohort to clarify the possible association.

Presented by J. Fehniger, et. al* at the annual American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) 33rd Annual Scientific Meeting - October 3 - 6, 2012 - Hilton Chicago - Chicago, Illinois USA
