CHICAGO, IL USA (UroToday) - This session provided a report on a study of 320 French health care professionals, surveyed to better understand the oncosexological problems of the cancer patient and the professional’s empathy qualities.
Overall, urologists scored the highest and were the most proactive educators with patients. As a result of this study, statewide sensitivity training was done in all institutions and urologists/oncologists had one full day of training.
Dr. Bondil also reported a study of 615 male outpatients with prostate cancer who agreed to be interviewed and informed about the impact prostate cancer treatment on sexual health (Male cancers and specific requests for sexual care: Lessons for daily practice based on 3 prospective surveys in an outpatient urology clinic in public hospital ). Analysis of this prostate cancer patient group indicated there is an inequality to oncosexual care. Eighty-two percent had ED but only half were treated; yet 95% of those men with ED (even the oldest men) wanted treatment or requested information about ED treatment.
