BERKELEY, CA USA (Press Release) - February 25, 2013 -

EAU Milan Congress to highlight challenges in roundtable talk with media

Arnhem - Challenges in treating kidney and prostate cancers and updates on topics such as paediatric and functional urology will be among the highlights of the press meeting with members the European Association of Urology (EAU) Executive Board during the annual EAU congress in Milan, Italy.

A roundtable discussion on Saturday, 16 March 2013 will be scheduled for members of the general press in Milan, Italy. With ‘Challenges in urology’ as theme, the roundtable discussion will be led by Profs. Per-Anders Abrahamsson, EAU Secretary General, Hein van Poppel, Adjunct Secretary General and Manfred Wirth, Treasurer. Also invited to provide updates is Dr. John Heesakkers (NL) who will speak lower urinary tract management.

The 28th Annual EAU Congress in Milan is the second to be held in that city since 2008. An estimated 12,000 professional visitors and participants are expected to attend Europe’s biggest urological event which will take place from 15 to 19 March for a five-day meeting that includes a comprehensive scientific programme, post-graduate courses and training, a threeday Technical Exhibit, industry-led symposia and an international urological nurses conference, among others.

Although the bulk of participants are from mainland Europe, urologists from Asia, particularly China and Japan, account for many of the advance registrations. Medical professinals from at least 90 countries annually participate in the event, with Africa, the Mid- East and the Americas well represented in more than four plenary sessions, 14 thematic sessions, 39 courses organised by the European School of Urology (ESU), and other satellite meetings and symposia.

“The biggest challenge is to make a programme that's interesting for all participants, whether they come from within or outside of Europe, whether they are young or experienced, and even catering to participating non-urologists," said Prof. Arnulf Stenzl, Chairman of the Scientific Congress Office. “Quality is the major goal. We cover more topics every year, but you have to do that without losing sight of the quality.”
