An estimated 1.4 million adults identify as transgender in the United States. This number may be higher due to the lack of national population-based surveys measuring gender identity. Diane Newman welcomes Laura Douglass to discuss the role of the urologist in the care of transgender patients, and specifically the urologist's role in providing gender-affirming surgery.

Laura Douglass, MD, Assistant Professor of Urology, Reconstructive Urology and Gender Affirming Surgery, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA

Diane K. Newman, DNP, ANP-BC, FAAN, Adjunct Professor of Urology in Surgery, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania and Co-Director of the Penn Center for Continence and Pelvic Health. She is the author of several books. The most recent is as lead editor of the 1st edition of the SUNA Core Curriculum for Urologic Nursing and of Clinical Application of Urologic Catheters, Devices, and Products.
