Christopher Payne, MD a urologist from San Jose, California and Diane Newman, DNP discuss several presentations from the 2018 Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction meeting (SUFU). Among the topics, they highlight are Urinary Bladder Dysfunction, Bladder Innervation, Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) and Lower Urinary Tract Infections.

They overview several presentations and abstracts including but not limited to the following: a potential advancement in technology in the field of SUI, a talk on Rapid Diagnosis of Urinary Tract Infections.  A study which will help decrease incorrect treatment and initiate correct treatment a lot sooner. A presentation by A. Lenore Ackerman, MD who presented on patients who had vaginal mesh sling kits implanted for stress urinary incontinence and developed several severe complications, including mesh extrusion, urinary problems, organ perforation, and vaginal scarring that developing more than 6 months after the procedure.  A presentation on 5 Year Results of The Prostatic Urethral LIFT Pivotal Study, a presentation by Michael Trotter, MD. This is a prospective, randomized study looking at the treatment of BPH using the Prostatic Urethral Lift (PUL).

Christopher Payne, MD, a urologist in San Jose, California, specializes in female urology, reconstructive surgery, and chronic bladder pain and is affiliated with Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years.
