GayBiProstate Study: Expanding Quality of Life and Understanding Sexual Function Post Treatment - Bernard Lee

January 19, 2018

Dr Bernard Lee shares the background and details of the GayBiProstate Study with Dr. Alicia Morgans. He explains the GayBiProstate study was developed for a patient population which is historically under studied when it comes to quality of life.  The study focuses on sexual function of gay and bisexual patients ages 18-75 with a history of prostate cancer who have received prostate cancer treatment.

Prostate cancer treatments cause sexual problems for men in general and particularly for men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM). Dr. Lee’s team is developing a questionnaire to help researchers study the sexual impact of prostate cancer treatments on men in the MSM community. They are now recruiting MSM to further develop their questionnaire. The final questionnaire will be used to help MSM patients and healthcare professionals identify the cancer treatments that give men the overall best cancer control and sexual quality of life. The study can only be found at www.Thissurvey.com/compass

Quality of life is becoming more and more important for prostate cancer survivor patients and all cancer treatment.  With advances in technology, clinical outcomes are improving and attention is being directed towards life after treatment.  The current state of this topic is without solid findings and information, it is hard for the patient to educate themselves, to navigate the medical system and for the physician to offer any kind of sound advice.
