#AUA14 - Invasion of prostatic capsule: Can preoperative mp-MRI predict the information of pathological analysis - Session Highlights

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - Multiparametic MRI (mp-MRI) provides reliable evaluation of focal areas and local staging of prostate cancer. It specifically shows extracapsular extension and seminal vesicle invasion. Francesco Porpiglia and colleagues wanted to evaluate the ability of this MRI method in identifying prostatic capsular invasion (PCI) by comparing it with histopathologic evaluation.

#AUA14 - A more extensive pelvic lymph node dissection is associated with improved survival of patients with node-positive prostate cancer - Session Highlights

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - The association between the extent of pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) and patient survival remains still unclear in prostate cancer.

#AUA14 - A novel genetic model for studying uric acid stone disease - Session Highlights

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - Uric acid (UA), and its physiological relevant anion urate, represent the final breakdown products of the purine degradation pathway in humans.

#AUA14 - Do circulating tumor cells help in decision-making regarding adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder treated with radical cystectomy? - Session Highlights

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - Dr. Armin Soave presented some very interesting data regarding the presence of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in patients undergoing radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer. The premise of the study is that presence of CTCs is a harbinger of poorer oncologic outcomes and might be an indication for chemotherapy after radical cystectomy (RC).

#AUA14 - Mental health is not affected by active surveillance for patients with small renal masses: Quality of life results from the DISSRM registry - Session Highlights

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - In this poster, Dr. Michael Gorin presented quality of life outcomes from the Delayed Intervention and Surveillance for Small Renal Masses (DISSRM) registry. This goal of the registry is to assess the safety of active surveillance (AS) for small renal masses, 4cm or smaller, and currently includes 454 patients – 188 AS patients, 265 patients undergoing primary intervention and 21 patients crossing over from AS to intervention.

#AUA14 - Poster: Comparison of toxicity between single and combined modality radiation therapy among low-risk prostate cancer patients

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - Presented by Jeffrey J Tomaszewski,1 Renjian Jiang,2 Kevin Ward,2 Robert G. Uzzo,1 and Daniel Canter3 at the American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting- May 16 - 21, 2014 - Orlando, Florida USA

#AUA14 - National trends in the management of benign renal masses: A 14-year survey of the Nationwide Inpatient Sample - Session Highlights

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - Management of renal masses involves extirpative treatment, ablation, and active surveillance. Nishant Patel and colleagues examined national trends in the management of renal masses, specifically those with benign histology.

#AUA14 - High incidence of predominant Gleason pattern 4 is associated with low testosterone serum level in localized prostate cancer: An update with 937 patients - Session Highlights

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - Prostate specific antigen (PSA) lacks many qualities of an ideal testing marker.

#AUA14 - Session Highlights: Long term follow-up of a large active surveillance cohort

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - Concerns regarding potential over-diagnosis and over-treatment of low-risk prostate cancer have been raised in recent years.

#AUA14 - Multiparametric prostate MRI and MRI/ultrasound fusion biopsy in the follow-up of prostate cancer progression for men on active surveillance - Session Highlights

ORLANDO, FL USA (UroToday.com) - Men with low-risk prostate cancer are increasingly offered the option of active surveillance, involving serial prostate biopsy in order to assess for progression of disease.
